The distance of the Earth from the Sun

Post by Azadar E Mazloom on Wed May 26, 2010 9:21 am

Bismillah Hirahman Niraheem,

Ya Ali (as) Madad

A man asked Imam Ali (a.s.) in Masjid-e-Kufa, "What is the distance between me and (pointing towards the sun) and the sun".

It
is worth mentioning here about the complexity of this question. This
man was an Arab. And in the Arabic language the numbers or count is
limited upto one thousand (1000). The count in arabic does not exceed
1000. The answer to the question this man asked dealt in millions
(distance).

It was like a challenge to Imam Ali (a.s.) to answer him in a convincing manner without confusing him.

Imam
Ali (a.s.) answered : "If an Arab horse starts walking from here and
continues walking for 500 years, then he (horse) will reach the sun."

The man got convinced and walked away.

But
it is for us now to ponder on what Imam Ali (a.s.) said. This one
sentence of Imam Ali (a.s.) shows and proves the genius that Imam Ali
(a.s.) was.

Imam Ali (a.s.) said "If an Arab horse...", the average speed of an arab horse is 22 mph (miles per hour).

If
a horse runs the full day (24hours) it will cover approximately 520
miles. This gives us the distance the horse will cover in 24 hrs (one
day).

To calculate the distance covered by the horse in one
month we multiply it 520 by 29.5 (Taking an average of the number of
months in urdu callender. Assuming that 6 months are of 29 days and 6
months are of 30 days.). It gives us something around 15,500. The horse
covers 15,500 miles in one month (30 days).

To get the
distance that he will travel in one year we multiply it by 12. Since
there are 12 months in a year. It gives you 1,86,000.

Then multiply 1,86,000 by 500 as the horse should run for 500 years. It gives you 9,34,00,000 miles.

Now
if you ask an astronomer about the distance of sun from the earth he
will tell you that the distance is never constant. The orbit of the
earth is oval in shape. Sometimes it comes nearer to the sun and on
occasions it distances itself from the sun.
When the earth is
closest to the sun its distance is 9,10,00,000 miles and the distance
when it is farthest from the sun is 9,48,00,000 miles. When you take an
average on these two distances it comes around 9,30,000 miles.

Imam
Ali (a.s.) 1400 years back told us about the distance of the earth from
the sun. This also proves that Imam Ali (a.s.) was a genius in
Astronomy, Zoology and Arithmetic.

Umm, where is this hadeeth narrated? I am attempting to find this hadeeth, but I haven't found it.

No problem, brother. Just sometimes, you have to be very weary of where you get your information from even if it shows greatness of Imaam `Alee (AS). Did you do the mathematics yourself? Or did you copy and paste it from somewhere?

May I ask what website? As I have never heard this story / hadeeth being told throughout my years of going to various different centers and majaalis that talk about the faDaa'il of Imaam `Alee (AS). I would think, something of this magnitude would be so rampant amongst our Shee`ahs, because this would prove the greatness of Imaam `Alee (AS), and the level of knowledge he had.

This is suspicious as I have not seen nor heard this hadeeth before.

What website did you get it from? If you can paste the link.

No problem, brother. It is best to double and triple check the sources and the authenticity before you post things on the internet, as this can be seen by the whole world. We will be held accountable for the things we've spread around, even if it talks about the faDaa'il of the Ahl Al-Bayt (AS). We must refrain rom such postings unless we know a 100% that this is authentic.

Salam and Ya Ali a.s Madad.I am very pleased for your knowledge sharing 2 us my beloved Azadar e Mazloom brother although my english is not good because i m pakistani and our languge is urdu but till i try with the blessings of Imam Ali a.s because He is the door of knowledge through which every one can be acquired what he wanted. At this occasion i want to narrate the ayat of holy quran which is in sorah e yaseen that We(Almighty Allah) has covered every thing in all of the universe in "IMAM E MOBEEN" which is "Mola Ali a.s" according to shia hadiats. We always remind this ayat in our mind when we feel that this act happened impossible because we have given very little knowledge according 2 quranic verse(ayat) so how we dare 2 say this that work or evidence is difficult for Mohammad O ALL E Mohammad A.s Let me told all of You respect brothers and sisters that We all r nothing so we have no right 2 refuse or confuse such great informations which Ahlul Bait a.s has provided 2 us We all know very well that Only Mohammad O ALLAY E Mohammad A.s has claimed that Which u may want to ask till day of judgement{Qaimat} We Masomeen A.s can told u 2 what would be happened.
We all have given order that We must belief at Masomeen a.s not to think them because he who keep strong belief at Masomeen a.s becomes Suleman r.a and Who thinks or objects becomes Shitan{May Allah always curse at him}
Hope 4 ur positive and courage ful reply.

Even If This Hadith is not Uttered by Imam Ali a.s . But , I believe He a.s would have the maximum nd superior knowledge as compared to astronomers of this time , The Best reference to this hadith is another hadith in which the Prophet Of Islam , Our Most Beloved Hazrat Mohammad SAWAW said:

"I am The City Of Knowledge, And Ali a.s Is Its Gate.So whoever intends to enter the City and the Wisdom, he should enter from its Gate."

So i hve no doubt tht the Knowledge of The Prophet SAWAW nd Imam Ali a.s is far more greater than an astromer or any other person ,so i believe this hadith to b true , so dont hve doubts. ALLAH HAFIZ O NASIR tongue
