Re: The 72 martyrs of Kerbala...

Post by Silat_warrior110 on Fri May 28, 2010 6:46 am

This is not accurate for several reasons:-

*According to Blazari in "Ansaab al Ashraaf Vol. 3 , Pg 105" there were 72 Martyrs(a.s).

*According to Sheikh Mufeed in "Irshaad Sheikh Mufeed vol 2 Pg 95" there were 72 Martrys(a.s)

*According to ibn Ase'sr in "Kamil ibn Ase'er Vol. 4, Pg 10" there were 72 Martyrs(a.s)

* Mohammad bin Jareer Tabri in "Dalai'il al-Imama, Pg 71" there were 72 Martyrs(a.s)

* According to Masood in " Marvej al Zehab Vol.3 Pg.61" there were 87 Martyrs(a.s)

* According to Syeed ibne Tauus in "Al-Malhuf, Pg 60" there were 78 Companions(a.s) of IMAM HUSSAIN(a.s) who got martyred in kerbala ......here if we include Martyrs of Bani Hashim(a.s) which are 8 and IMAM HUSSAIN(a.s) himself then the figure becomes same as what Masoode quoted which is (87).

Marhoom Allama Majlisi narrated from Mohammad bin Abi Talib in "Bahar ul Anwar, Vol 45, Pg 4" that the Martyrs(a.s) of Kerbala were 82.

Narrated from IMAM MOHAMMAD BAQIR(a.s) in "Nafs al Mahmoom, Pg 236" that there were 145 Martyrs(a.s)

This is only the figure that mentions MARTYRS(a.s) when we include Women, Children and those who were not MARTYRED(a.s) in Kerbala the figure becomes much higher............

Just so I understand you, in certain hadith it is claimed there were 72 martyrs, in other hadith it is claimed there were more martyrs.

I am wrong for naming 72 as some hadith claim more existed but you can't substantiate your claims by telling me who else was included yet I am wrong?

Sorry, just trying to understand your point brother Smile

Read it again bro, but if there are hadith saying there are 72 and named the members, should I believe that hadith or a hadith that states there are more but can't name anymore then the 72?

What's the sense in discussing if there were more or not?
72, 87 or 145, Maula Hussain (as) was left alone. There were thousands of "Muslims", yet none faught for Maula Hussain (as). Be it 72 or 87, it's an extremely small number of Martyrs (as). And if you want to be correct, there are more Martyrs (as) of Kerbala than mentioned in the books because everyone who replied to "Hal min nasir..." is a Martyr, regardless of having died in Kerbala or not.

"What's the sense in discussing if there were more or not?''

Well this is becuase we should not only think that they where 72 who got martyed along with Imam Hussain (as), and that we can not forget the others who where along side him (as). Yes this call by Imam Hussain (as) "Hal Min Nasroon" was in reality for us and not for the armys of Yazid (la) who where present there at the time. Forget the muslims, even christians and hindus came to be martyed behind Mola (as).

We can't go back and see how many there were. The important thing is that we are aware of the fact that those who faught for Maula (as) were true Martyrs, the number does not matter. We know it was a very small number, if not 72 then 87, what's the difference? You are not going to worship them all name by name, so why even bother discussing their number? I am not degrading them Nauzubillah or making this issue "unimportant", but does it really matter to you if it was 72 or 87 or even 145? We know that the Martyrs (as) were the right ones; they shall be blessed and their path is to be followed by us. Isn't this what matters?

Yes I agree totaly however this we should educate people and tell them that it was not only 72 martys. As we can neglect the other evidances which have been presented and most importantly the words of the Aima (as).

Qarib :The son of a liberated slave girl of Husayn This lady, after having been liberated by the holy Imam, was married to a gentlemen and brought her son Qarib and presented him to the Holy Imam and Qarib was brought up by the Holy Imam. He was martyred along with the other devotees, offering himself in the way of the Lord.

Qasith, Kardoos, Musqit-Sons of Zohair al Taghlabi: These three brothers were the devoted companions of Amirul Momineen who were with him in all his expeditions against the infidels and traitors. They came form Kufa and offered themselves for noble cause and achieve martyrdom.

Qan'ab an Namri: One of the devotees of Amirul-Momineen who came for Basra.

Qais bin Mushir as Saidavi: A very pious personality from a group of the Asadi tribe, extra-ordinarily brave, faithful and one of the sincere and faithful companions of the Holy Prophet. He reported himself to the Holy Imam, from Kufa, and was martyred.

Kannah at Taghlabi: A very noble personality known for his piety in Kufa. A good reciter of the Holy Qu'ran and a very brave, God fearing, influential and powerful noble of Kufa.

Majma'ul Jahni: Son of Zian bin Omar Jahni, one of the aged companions of the Holy Imam. When people began deserting the Holy Imam on the night of Ashura, this old devotee of the Holy Imam remained and achieved martyrdom.

Mas'ood bin Hajjaj Taimy : The devotes of Amirul-Momineen Ali(a.s.) from Kufa. These two were known for their piety and righteousness

Mauq' bin Thamamah Asadi Saidavi Abu Musa: One of the devotees of the Ahlul Bait in Kufa who escaped from the town at night and joined the Holy Imam at Karbala.

Many, many more brother I have, but I have to go through more of my books. It takes alot of time for me, just these ones took few hours of my time. I hope this helps. I hope this proves my point, hence the 72 can now be changed to 82 I will leave the rest of the names for you to research.

Don't you think there were more than 82 considering the fact that only YOU found 82 names? History has been changed, books have been burnt...

Off course I think there was more then 72, thats why I also included the names mentioned above. They where probably 72 people just from bani hashim alone. I could have even got you more names of martys, but at the moment I have alot of other projects going on and dont have the time to do the research the scholars should be doing.
